Britten’s Four Sea Interludes & German Lieder and the Blues

May 20-21, 2017:  “Peter Grimes” is an opera by 20th century British composer Benjamin Britten, based on a poem about the tragic tale of an English fisherman who lost his young apprentice at sea.  In this week’s Intermountain Classics program we will hear an orchestra work from this opera, the “Four Sea Interludes”.  Also in the program will be a suite “in the olden style” for flute and chamber orchestra by John Rutter, a piano piece  called “April Preludes” by Czech composer Vitezslava Kapralova, and some delightful orchestral “fun” pieces by Leroy Anderson:  The Syncopated Clock, Jazz Pizzicato and Fiddle Faddle.  The second hour of the program will feature German songs for women’s voices, horns and harp by Johannes Brahms, and some modern classical blues tunes by Quincy Porter and George Gershwin.
