Share Tweet Email

April 30 2016:  Tonight’s Intermountain Classics features a potpourri of symphonic delights!  We begin with some exciting latin beats in Copland’s “Cuban Dances”  and ending with musical variations on the film score “The Lady Caliph” by the “spaghetti western” film composer Ennio Morricone and arranged for cellist YoYo Ma.  The highlight of the hour will be a new composition by American contemporary composer Mason Bates called “Alternative Energy” a most unusual and futuristic musical look at our natural world.  The famous concert violinist Jascha Heifetz will also make a surprise appearance with the “Carmen Fantasy” by Waxman.  The second hour is devoted to the early 20th century composer Dmitri Shostakovich and his struggles with the emerging communist party at the end of World War II.
