Early Classical Music of the Renaissance and Baroque Eras Hungarian Dances and Electric Strings!

Share Tweet Email

Saturday, April 2, 2016:  We go back in time, to the Early Baroque and Renaissance musical eras!  We will start with some early music and hear such instruments as the lute, recorders, krummhorns and viols.  We will hear a lovely Mass from the 16th Century by Thomas Tallis, and introduced to a rather obscure instrument called the Hurdy Gurdy!  Julian Bream will also grace the strings of his guitar for us with selections from a Bach suite.  In the second hour we will move further ahead in time with a symphony by one of Bach’s sons, Carl Phillip Emmanuel, and a concerto for cello and bassoon by Vivaldi.  And finally from more modern times we will hear the Dances of Galanta by 20th century Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly.  We will wrap up the concert with selections by String Fever, a UK-based electric string quartet who will be performing here in Redding next month.
