Waltzing Matilda, The Tsar of Saltan Suite, Bartok Concerto for Orchestra and DeFalla Spanish Songs

Tonight’s show is a very exciting potpourri of musical favorites that I’m sure you’re going to enjoy!  I recently found a wonderful recording of the suite from the opera “The Tsar of Saltan”, or more completely, “The Tsar of Saltan Vasily Nebolsin Bolshoi”.  This is a wonderful opera and the orchestra suite is just as beautiful!  Included in this performance is a secret little gem I’m sure you will recognize, and tonight I will turn on the phones for you to tell me what you think it is!  The first one to correctly identify the “gem” will win two free tickets to either the upcoming May 14th or 15th concert of the North State Symphony or the April 16th or 17th concert of the Shasta Symphony.  More information will be announced during the program, so stay tuned!  I’m also “crossing over” into jazz in tonight’s program with a most unusual “backup band” featured!  And last but certainly not least, we will hear the very programmatic and intensely exciting Concerto for Orchestra  by  Bela Bartok, and some beautiful Spanish folk songs as sung by soprano Victoria de los Angeles.
