His bio states that he was born and raised in Gilroy, California where he worked at a lumber mill and later as carpenter. He attended the California Department of Fish and Game (POST-certified) peace officer academy in Napa, completed his Bachelors of Sciene degree in Wildlife Management, graduated from the FBI National Academy (FBINA), and earned a master’s degree in Criminal Justice.
Sheriff Johnson worked as Chief of Police for the small prison-affiliated City of Ione, Chief of Police for the City of Anderson and on July 27, 2021, was appointed as Shasta County Sheriff.
He has been married to his wife Rosemary for 29 years. They have two sons, a 34-year-old hard working resident of San Diego, CA. and a 24-year-old United States Marine Corp veteran currently residing in Shasta County. Mike’s favorite hobbies include hunting, fishing, and dog training.
