October 1, 2016:   Intermountain Classics celebrates the 2016 FinnFest, a celebration of Finland and its culture, with music by its most beloved composer, Jean Sibelius. Beginning with the opening of his beloved Finlandia, during the first hour will be a musical telling of Finnish folklore with the Karelia Suite, followed by the beautiful love story of Peleas et Melisande.  In the second hour is a collection of very unusual works, first the “Spanish Mozart” Juan Crisostomo de Arriga, in his telling of the story of Sarah and Hagar from the Book of Genesis, followed by a Sinfonia Concertante for trumpet, piano, mandolin and double bass by early Classical era composer Leopold Kozeluch, and wrapping up with a very modern work by American contemporary composer Gordon Goodwin called “Three Stages for String Quartet”.  We will hear the first of three movements of this quartet, entitled “Focus”.  Stay tuned for this most inspiring program of fine classical music, right here on Intermountain Classics, on your community radio Station for Redding and Shasta County, KKRN, 88.5 FM and on the web at www.kkrn.org.
